Volunteer Opportunities

Request for Volunteers: The Big Erlton Cleanup! (YYCHelps #53)

We need to clean up the community of Erlton. People are just going back to their houses in this community and they are in great need of help. They need a lot of man power, trucks, and pumps. They will really appreciate if you can give them a hand this long weekend. Please be prepared for demolition work. The basements have to be torn down.

I will like to stress the importance of trucks and pumps since many of these available machinery is already in use in other locations around the city. Additionally, many of the those who were providing the truck/garbage services are leaving the city during the long weekend and won’t be able to help.

Date: Saturday, June 29th and Sunday, June 30th

Location: 4510 Macleod Trail South

Time: 11:00am

Please bring:

  • Shovels
  • Rubber boots or steel-toe shoes.
  • Bug Spray
  • Sunscreen or Hat
  • Pumps

Updated: Canada Bridges Requesting Many Volunteers & Donations, Gift Cards for Morley, Siksika, Tsuu T’ina

Canadian Bridges has a new post on their website, “June 28 Update – What is Needed Now“. It includes detailed information on volunteering and donating to help the people of Siksika, Tsuu T’ina and Morley.

The post says:

“The First Nations communities affected by the flooding at this moment are in great need of volunteers. If you would like to lend a hand there are many opportunities in Morley, Siksika, and Tsuu T’ina. People are needed for sorting donations, putting together food for affected individuals, clean-up, etc.” and also explains the kinds of donations they most need.

Please note there are corrected directions for the location of the Siksika volunteer check-in place. Here they are:

“Siksika: Volunteer check-in is located at the highschool beside the Deerfoot Sportsplex. The Deerfoot Sportsplex is the building with the red roof at the 901 and 547 intersection, south of Gleichen. There are many signs to direct you upon arrival. At least 150 volunteers are needed per shift.”

Please read the blog post to get more information on a wide variety of opportunities to help.

Request for volunteers: Mending Poppy Plaza & Pathway (YYCHelps #51)

Looking for a group to team up and initially focus on the pathway & tend to the shrubs and plants that amazingly remained after the force of water plowed over them, they need TLC.
